Abstract

854,331. Raising derrick masts. MOORE CORPORATION, L. C. March 11, 1958 [July 30, 1957], No. 7880/58. Class 78 (4). The mast 3 of an oil well derrick is raised about a hinged connection with a base 2 by means of a cable 8, secured at one end to a ginpole 1 and at the other end to a travelling- block 7 and passing over sheaves 9, 10, 11, the block 7 being drawn up the mast by means of a cable 5 and draw-works 4. When the block 7 reaches the top of the mast, a link 12 is connected between the gin-pole and the mast to support the mast in an inclined position while the block 7 is returned to the lower end of the mast and the cable 8 is shortened, when the cycle is repeated to bring the mast to its erected position. The block 7 is suported from a carriage 20, while it is being lowered, to prevent its swinging out of the mast.
