A derrick suitable for drilling several wells from one base comprises a mast B, Figs. 1, 2, which is raised about a pivot 4 and attached at 15, 16 to a gin pole 8, 9, 17, the lower parts 3, Fig. 1, of the mast then being removed. Each bracket 15, 16 has two vertically-spaced holes 18, 20, Fig. 3, so that the mast can be supported in three drilling positions, the racking platform 23, Figs. 1, 2, being pivoted on links 25, 26 so that it takes up its correct position beneath the crown block C. In a modification, Fig. 7, the mast is pivoted at 31 and three pairs of brackets 32, 32A, 33, 33A, 34, 34A replace the brackets 15, 16. In another modification, Fig. 9, the mast has no removable lower parts but is pivoted at 38, and a bracket 36 gives three alternative drilling positions. In a further embodiment, Fig. 12, a brace 57 can be attached to the sloping mast E at three different positions along its length. Three corresponding positions are provided for attaching the racking platform 61 to the brace 57.
