Abstract
605,881. Derricks. STEVENS, A. H. (Moore & Co., Inc., L. C.). Aug. 3, 1945, No. 20022. [Class 78 (iv)] A pre-assembled gin pole adapted to be mounted at the top of an oil-well derrick 6 comprises a skeleton mast structure 1 which has a projecting portion 2 for supporting gear used to facilitate handling of a crown block and is pivotally mounted at 7 on the derrick, whereby during its erection it may be swung from a hanging position alongside the derrick to an upright position where it is held by locking pins inserted in registering openings in brackets 11, 12 projecting from the derrick and mast respectively. The mast is drawn up from the ground to its position alongside the derrick by securing it to a cable 9 passing over a pulleyblock 8, temporarily suspended from the derrick, to a winding drum. The mast is drawn up on the side of the derrick until hinge brackets on it reach hinge brackets at 7 on the derrick, hinge pins then being inserted through registering openings in these brackets.
