Abstract
598,048. Derricks. MOORE & CO., Inc., L. C. April 11, 1944, No. 6646. Convention date, April 10, 1943. [Class 78(iv)] A derrick straddling an oil well 2 comprises a'sectional mast, Fig. 1, having its front and rear legs 12a, 12b detachably pivoted in brackets 11, 14 on a superstructure 1 which is open at its front end so that when the mast is lowered by a cable 7 after disconnecting its front legs from the brackets 14, it will extend out through the open end of the superstructure along the ground as in Fig. 3. During the raising or lowering of the mast, the cable 7, connected to the travelling block 8, is supported by a sheave 20 on a gin pole 16, 17 which is fastened to the bracket 11 and to a bracket 18 adjacent the. hoisting mechanism. In a modification, Fig. 6, the front of the mast is detachably connected at 28 to the front legs 29 of a gin pole, the vertical legs 30 of which are secured to the brackets 11.
