Abstract

839,606. Internal shoe-drum brakes. CLARK EQUIPMENT CO. June 12, 1958 [July 19, 1957], No. 18811/58. Class 103 (1). In an internal shoe-drum brake having two pairs of brake shoes 50a, 50b located in axially disposed relationship within the brake drum, stationary spider plates 30a, 30b are connected to the axle housing 12 by means of bolts 46, and the two pairs of brake shoes are mounted thereon. The spider plates 30a, 30b are identical but are positioned in such a manner that a shaft 62a carrying an actuator cam 60a for operating the pair of brake shoes 50a is rotatably mounted in a first bearing portion 36a in spider plate 30a and the opposite side of spider plate 30a forms a pair of second bearing portions 42a for the pivoted ends of the pair of brake shoes 50a. The shaft 62b carrying an actuator cam 60b for operating the pair of brake shoes 50b is rotatably mounted, in opposite relationship to the shaft 60a, in first bearing portion 36b in spider plate 30b and the opposite side of the spider plate 30b forms a pair of second bearing portions 42b for the pivoted ends of the pair of brake shoes 50b. The actuator cam shafts 62a, 62b are operated by means of pneumatic actuators 68a and 68b respectively.
