Abstract

957,504. Disc brakes. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 28, 1960 [Dec. 18, 1959], No. 42514/59. Heading F2E. A disc brake comprises two pairs of friction pads 13, 14, arranged to grip the brake disc 10 between them at circumferentially spaced points and a single power actuator 18 is provided for operating both pairs of friction pads in unison and a manually-operable connection is provided for actuating at least one of the pairs of friction pads. The power actuator 18 may be situated in the position shown in full lines in Fig. 1 to actuate one lever arm 15 directly and the other lever arm 15 through a link 17. Friction pads 13 are thus simultaneously urged into frictional contact with one face of the axially slidable brake disc 10 through thrust members 32 and rollers 25 operating in inclined ramps provided in cam tracks 24, 26. Wear compensating means is provided in the end of each cam track housing and is constituted by a threaded stud 27 mounted on an end cap 28 the stud 27 being arranged by the outer surfaces of the cam tracks 26 and rotatable by torsion springs 29 to compensate for wear. An ear 21 on one lever 15 is provided for a connection to a manually-operable brake linkage (not shown). The power actuator 18 may be fitted (as shown in dotted lines) between the two portions of a split link 17 and the hand brake will be effective on one pair of friction pads only.
