Abstract
864,406. Disc brakes. GIRLING Ltd. Oct. 12, 1959 [July 11, 1958], No. 22265/58. Class 103 (1). A disc brake has a disc comprising a ring 11 mounted on and extending inwardly from an annular member 10 rotating with a wheel or other part of a vehicle transmission and friction pads 21, 29 for engagement with one face of the disc are mounted upon opposite ends of a floating beam 19 movable towards and away from the disc. While friction pads 21, 29, adapted to engage the opposite face of the discs are mounted on coupled levers 23, 24, which fulcrum on draw-bars 33, which connect the levers to the beam 19 of which the axes are substantially parallel to the axis of the disc, the torque is taken by a stationary spider or like member 14, providing abutments for the beam 19 and for the levers 23, 24 and for the drawbars 33. The actuating lever 23 and the second lever 24 are formed with laterally-projecting bosses 37 which are received between the horns 15 on the fixed spider 14 which takes the torque on these members, when the brake is applied, and the beam 19 has similar bosses engaging between horns on the other side of the spider.
