Abstract

788,841. Disc brakes. COATALEN, L. May 17, 1956 [Feb. 10, 1956], No. 15398/56. Class 103 (1). In a spot-type disc brake of the kind in which the disc 1 is fixed axially for rotation with a wheel hub a and a calliper-type housing 5 floatably guided on shafts 6 is arranged to apply friction members 32 and 33 to grip the disc 1 therebetween, one of the friction members 32 is so mounted as to be capable of limited circumferential movement so that on contact with the disc it is carried round thereby and through the action of rollers 26 on cam slopes 27, Fig. 2, it is caused to grip the disc more tightly. As shown in Fig. 3, the brake is of an emergency character applied by a cable 14 connected between a handlever and lever 13, but it could also be a main brake actuated by the hydraulic cylinder and piston 35, 36 are indicated in dotted outline in Fig. 2.
