Abstract

838,873. Hydraulic shock absorbers. GIRLING Ltd. April 29, 1957 [Jan. 28, 1956], No. 2839/56. Class 108(3) [Also in XXXI] A motor cycle front fork (see Group XXXI) comprises an hydraulic cylinder 21 rigid with an outer concentric cylinder 10 which itself is telescopically mounted in an outer tube 11. A piston 22 on a rod 23 rigid with the tube 11 has valves (Fig. 4, not shown) controlling flow in both directions. A recuperation chamber 39 defined by a flexible sheath 39 is separated from the cylinder by partition 36 having a control valve 38. In a modification (Figs. 1, 2, not shown), the sheath 39 is replaced by an extension of the cylinder 21. The partition 36 is then carried on the lower end of a rod, the upper end of which is rigid with a closure member for the extension of the cylinder 21. This rod may carry a plate to baffle liquid flow in the reservoir.
