Abstract

836,176. Pipe cleaning devices. LEMFORDER METALLWARENGESELLSCHAFT. June 12, 1958 [June 15, 1957], No. 18843/58. Class 99(2). A scraper for cleaning the internal surfaces of pipes, e.g. rising pipes in petroleum pumping wells, comprises a sleeve of resilient synthetic plastic, e.g. polyurethane, and extending radially outwards therefrom a scraper blade of resilient synthetic plastic, the sleeve encircling and gripping rigidly a pipe rod so that longitudinal movement of the pipe rod within the pipe to be cleaned causes the scraper blade in pressure contact with the internal surface of the pipe to clean the said surface. As shown, the sleeve is formed of semi-cylindrical elements 1, 2 integral with two helically shaped portions 3, 4 forming the scraper blade and is secured to the pipe, not shown, by clips 7, 8 retained against flanges 5, 6 on the sleeve. Alternatively the sleeve is formed from a plurality of part cylindrical elements. The thickness of the scraper blade tapers towards its circumferential edge.
