Abstract

1,020,398. Cleaning sewer pipes. GENERAL DESCALING CO. Ltd. Jan. 11, 1965, No. 1118/65. Headings F2N and F2P. A silt-trap for insertion into the mouth of a pipe 20 as to engage the internal periphery thereof has a passage for fluid through it with an inlet displaced in such a way that when the member is engaged in the mouth of the pipe with its inlet uppermost, the plug forms a seal with the pipe and the inlet to the passage is above the axis of the pipe. The trap in this position prevents silt and debris from a portion of the pipe which is being cleaned cannot run downstream into a portion of the pipe already cleaned (Fig. 1, not shown). The trap is formed as a solid frusto-conical sleeve 1 of foam rubber through which a rigid pipe elbow 2 passes. Alternatively the sleeve may be hollow or inflatable.
