981,649. Brushes. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG A.G. Feb. 13, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 5813/63. Addition to 941,867. Heading A4K. [Also in Division F2] Brushes which are propelled by fluid through the tubes 21 of heat-exchangers to clean them are formed with coned end-caps 3 and 4 of a plastic material which will not absorb much water and swell with tufts 11 of bristles mounted between the ends on a hub which may be flexible to negotiate curved tubes, The hub may consist of brass wires twisted together in a single continuous length embracing the tufts 11 at spaced intervals (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown), or the twisted wires may be in two parts 23, 24 interlinked by eyelets 25, 26 (Fig 6), by a ball 27 and socket 28 (Fig. 7), by an elastic sleeve (Fig. 8 not shown), or by a cylindrical, cage-like member pressed on to the free ends of the two portions 23 and 24 (Fig. 9). In other embodiments whisks 32 of bristles are supported on a coil spring 31 (Fig. 10) or on a flexible rod 33 with elastic rings 34 interposed between the whisks.
