Abstract

267,697. Hawkins, W. G. Feb. 25, 1926. Joints with yielding outer part compressed; sleeve joints; junction-pieces.-In a tube of the kind comprising an external flexible coupling sleeve 3 and an internal elastic buffer arranged between the adjacent ends 1<a>, 2a of the tubes 1, 2 to be connected, the elastic buffer comprises an annular washer 5, Fig. 1, of india-rubber carried upon an internal ferrule 4 the ends of which are adapted to fit snugly into the tube ends. The ferrule is preferably grooved as at 4<a> for the reception of the washer, while for use with flared tube ends, the ends thereof may be externally bevelled. In a modification, Fig. 4, the buffer is formed by annular elastic washers disposed upon either side of an external rib 9 on the ferrule. The ends of the ferrule may be made of different diameters, Fig. 8, for use in connecting different size tubes, while the coupling sleeve 3 is secured about the tubes by adjustable clamps 7, 8.
