834,750. Milling-cutters; broaches. WELLAUER, O. June, 5, 1958 [June 12, 1957; Nov. 25, 1957], No. 17975/58. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIII]. A rotary, band or reciprocating cutter for slotting or grooving metal has its teeth 2, 3 bevelled off at 34 on alternate sides to just short of half the thickness of the cutter so that a path for the flow of cooling air or fluid between the teeth is provided, and chips are more easily cleared as they tend to form in helical fashion rather than as flat spirals. The front and back faces 22, 23 of the teeth may be at right angles to the sides of the cutter as in Fig. 5, or may be oblique as shown at 220, 230 in Fig. 4. The back faces 23 and the bevels 34 may be plane or curved surfaces, and the intersection 35 of the bevel with the side of the cutter is a straight or curved line continuing the line of intersection of the back face of a preceding tooth with the side of the cutter.
