740,313. Cutting-tools. TICKNER, A. (Shephard, D. Le R.). Feb. 2, 1954, No. 3049/54. Class 83 (3). A parting-off tool 1 has an enlarged integra, head 4 with tapered sides 6 and a pre-formed upper cutting surface 5 comprising outer inwardly-inclined portions 9 and a central depressed portion 10, the cutting edge 8 formed at the junction of the cutting surface 5 and the raked forward end 7 being such that the cuttings are readily breakable or actually severed intermediately of their width. The outer portions 9 are preferably of the same dimensions and may be concave along arcs described on the same or separate axes. The central portion 10 may comprise one or more grooves of rectangular, wedge or arcuate shape.
