A tool, such as a milling cutter or broach, comprises teeth 2 inserted in slots in a body and each retained by a member 15 having opposite flat faces acting on the faces of recesses formed respectively in the tooth and the cutter body. Each pin may be in two parts inserted from opposite sides of the body. The recesses are formed to give clearance 12a, 13a on two sides. The blade slots are staggered forwardly of the cutter centre-line Mc as at k.
