Abstract

842,133. Drills &c. WICKMAN Ltd. (Seaton, G. F., and Mayer, J. H.). Nov. 25, 1958 [Dec. 4, 1957], No. 37742/57. Class 83 (3). A rotary cutting-tool, such as a drill; has negative-rake cutting-edges d, Fig. 4, in the range 20-30 degrees, the included angle of the facets of these edges being in the range 101-105 degrees. As applied to an inserted cutter-drill, the point C, Fig. 3, is formed with an edge having a length in the range 0.010- 0.015 inch. The side edges f are reduced to between 0.03 and 0.09 inch, and the shank end is chamfered at g. In a counterbore, the edges a, Fig. 5, are separated by a notch h. The tool may be formed as a radius-cutter having a semicircular cutting-edge a, Fig. 11.
