Class 7(6) The inlet to a crankcase is controlled by a rotary valve formed by a pair of crank webs 1 provided with control recesses 2, the inlet port being formed in an insert 3 and divided by a partition 5 extending into the space between the webs 1. The insert 3 fits tightly against the rims of the webs 1 and the partition 5 forms a seal against the inner sides of the webs. Slight lateral clearance, equal to the axial movement of the crankshaft in its bearings, is provided for the insert 3.
