Abstract
832,708. Ammunition feed mechanisms. BREVETS AERO-MECANIQUES S.A. April 2, 1958 [April 16, 1957], No. 12388/57. Class 92 Belt-feed apparatus comprises a sprocket rotor having two sprocket wheels 8 and 9 which hold the belt-links 6a and 6b against lateral movement whilst at the ends of the rotor a pair of guides 14 and 15 movable in the direction of feed converge to align the rounds laterally with the belt. The rotor (Fig. 3, not shown) is rotatably mounted on a spindle 12 fixed by brackets 1 and 3 to an elevatable part of the gunmounting. At either end of the rotor the guide discs 14 and 15, which are frustoconical on their inward facing surfaces, are carried on ball bearings (Fig. 3, not shown) whose axes are slightly inclined to the axis of the spindle 12. The rotor is housed in a duct 4 (shown in an external end-view in Fig. 2) with guide-ribs 16 and 17 along its internal length leading down to the feed aperture (dotted in Fig. 2) of the gun. In an alternative embodiment the spindle 12 is carried on brackets pivoted on a resilient mounting consisting of a rubber-bonded torsion sleeve on a fixed spindle (Fig. 4, not shown) to respond to the pull and "stretch" of the belt. Other forms of guides than discs are mentioned, but not shown or described in detail.
