Abstract
916,178. Suspension arrangements for X-ray tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Dec. 23, 1960 [Dec. 23, 1959], No. 43686/59. Class 98 (1). A suspension arrangement comprises three or more members arranged for telescopic movement of which the outermost or innermost is mounted on a fixed support and the innermost or outermost, as the case may be, is adapted to carry an apparatus; the or each intermediate member carries a rotatable driving element in engagement with the members on either side so that axial movement of one member produces a corresponding movement in all the members except the fixed one. Counter-balancing means are associated with the inner or outermost member as the case may be. In the apparatus shown, five concentric tubes 1-5 are spaced relative to each other by ball races 6. Tube 1 is attached to a fixed support (not shown) and tube 5 is attached to an X-ray tube (also not shown) and a spring counter-balance consisting of a double cable, tension-springs and snail cams are provided for tube 5. The tubes are prevented from rotating angularly relative to each other by key balls which are located in tracks running the length of the tubes. Rotatable pinions 12 are provided on tubes 2, 3, 4 which engage racks 13 attached to the tubes so that movement of one tube results in a movement of all the tubes except 1.
