In a bearing for the rotating electrode 15 of an X-ray tube comprising balls 9 disposed between inner races 1, 2 of part-circular cross-section secured to a stud 3, and outer frusto-conical races 10, 11 spaced by a member 12 mounted in a housing 14 to which the electrode 15 is attached, the conical surfaces are arranged parallel to the directions D, Fig. 2, of relative expansions between the inner and outer races. In a modification, shown in Fig. 3, the inner races are conical and the outer races are partcircular in cross-section. In a further modification, the inner races 1, 2, Fig. 4, are spring- pressed towards each other.
