763,703. Bearings. UNITED AIRCRAFT CORPORATION. Jan. 12, 1955 [Feb. 10, 1954], No. 955/55. Class 12 (1). In a bearing comprising an inner race ring 16, an outer race ring 8 and bearing members 22 adapted to roll between them, one of the rings has its member-engaging surface out-of-round to produce at circumferentially spaced points a spacing between the member-engaging surfaces of the rings that is slightly less than the comparable dimension of the bearing member 22. A method of producing such a bearing comprises producing an outer race ring with a cylindrical inner surface, distorting the ring and forming a cylindrical outer surface on the distorted ring. The ring 8 is mounted in a cylindrical recess 36 in a supporting housing 6 which is sufficiently rigid to cause distortion of the ring 8 and produce an out-of-round inner surface thereon and is sufficiently resilient to permit distortion of the outer ring by the bearing members as they move between the rings.
