Abstract

832,346. Feeding and opening cartons. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. May 14, 1957, [May 23, 1956], No. 5715/56. Class 94(1). To break the creases of collapsed cartons 11 they are fed by spaced pushers 21 on an endless conveyer 18 through a channel 17, the leading edges of the cartons engaging spaced abutment members 22 on an endless carrier 19 driven at a slower speed than the conveyer so that the cartons are opened. Score-breaking folding members 33 on an endless carrier 34 moving faster than the conveyer then engage the rear faces of the cartons to continue the folding action beyond the fully open position and feed the cartons into a tapering channel 32 to collapse them in the opposite direction. The cartons are fed from a stack 12 by rollers 16 into the channel 17 which is formed between the runs of the conveyer 18 and carrier 19, a guide 24 and oscillating deflector 26 guiding them towards the abutments 22. While the pusher 21 is still in engagement with the rear face of the opened carton and after the abutment 22 has moved clear of the leading face, the folding member 33 engages the rear end to force the carton into the tapering channel 32, and cam-operated arms 39 on a transfer member 41 move it to a delivery conveyer 38.
