Abstract

846,891. Setting-up collapsed cartons. ROSE BROS. (GAINSBOROUGH) Ltd. Sept; 26, 1957 [Sept. 27, 1956], No. 29473/56. Class 94(1). Collapsed cartons 1 are removed in succession from a magazine 2 by a reciprocating suction nozzle 3 and fed through rollers 7 and between side guides 8 so that the rear edge of each is engaged by a pusher 11 on a conveyer 9. The latter positions each carton for engagement by one of a series of sets of suction nozzles 12 carried by a rotatable member 13 operated continuously in synchronism with the conveyer 9, the nozzles engaging the carton on the forward side of a longitudinal score line so as to leave the position 16 of the carton on the other side freely extending rearwardly. As the carton is carried round by the member 13, cam-operated arms 19, pivoted to the member, engage the portion 16 and cause it to pivot about the score line so as to open the carton and partially recollapse it in the opposite direction. The suction nozzles 12 release their grip as the carton is engaged by a pusher 22 on a conveyer 17 which moves it between inclined guides 21 to complete the recollapsing movement. The cartons are finally transfered in succession to the pockets 25 of a delivery conveyer 23 by cam-operated arms 26 on a rotatable member 24, each carton opening automatically as it leaves the guides 21 due to its inherent springiness and frictional engagement with a side guide 20 of the conveyer 23.
