Abstract

998,610. Setting up collapsed cartons. PROCTER & GAMBLE CO. Sept. 18, 1962, No. 35504/62. Heading B8C. Collapsed cartons are fed from a carton magazine 17 and inserted in partially erected condition into a conveyer 15 running round a pulley 12, the cartons being held in pockets, formed between blocks 16 on the conveyer 15, and controlled initially by hooks 25 pivoted on the pulley 12. The conveyer 15 and pulley 12 are mounted on the frame 11 of a carton filling and sealing machine. The collapsed cartons are urged forward between guide rails 18, 19, and removed by an oscillating sucker cup 23, their lower end being forced into a conveyer pocket by a reciprocating kicker member 24. A cam follower 28 on each of the hooks 25 engages a cam track 37 to pivot the hook downwards. When the carton is within guide rails 40, a second cam track 39 disengages each hook 25 from it. In a modification, the hooks 25 may be pivoted on the blocks 16. Specification 786,471 is referred to.
