Abstract

775,226. Feeding cigarettes to a grooved conveyer chain. KORBER, K. April 13, 1955 [May 14, 1954], No. 10616/55. Class 78 (1). In a device in which oval-section cigarettes are fed by a pusher 5 from a supply magazine 2 into the grooves 11 of a conveyer chain 10 which carries them past a photo-electrically controlled device for turning cigarettes with the brand imprint incorrectly positioned, the cigarettes are retarded whilst being fed to the chain by a yielding element, which causes the cigarettes to move downwardly into the grooves. In one form, Fig. 1, the yielding element is a felt disc 8 which is secured to a frame 8<SP>1</SP> pivoted at 9 so that it can be swung out of the way when not required. A guide 15 locates the ends of the cigarettes after they are received in the grooves. The felt disc may be replaced by a plurality of springy blades corresponding to the number of cigarettes in a batch. In a further form, Fig. 5, the yielding element is the head 18 of a plunger 19 reciprocated obliquely by the combination of a sliding motion in a support 20 by cam 22 and a vertical movement of the support 20 by cam 21. The surfaces 23 propel the ends of the cigarettes downwardly into the grooves 11.
