Rotary wheel 2 is furnished with four horizontal magazines 3 and is given a stepwise movement. Each magazine is furnished with a pusher 3c, a pair of opposite magazines having a pusher in common. Caramels are supplied by supplier 1 and are pushed therefrom into a magazine 3 by pusher 1a, whilst the respective pusher 3c is moved inwards to permit the magazine to be filled. At the same time the corresponding pusher head 3c in the opposed magazine is caused to discharge caramels from the latter magazine. Thus each magazine in turn is filled with caramels by pusher la at the same time as the opposed magazine is being discharged, thus economizing in time of operation. Stepwise movement of wheel 2, Fig. la (not shown).-The stepwise movement of wheel 2 is derived from driving gear 18 via chain 17, shaft 15, pawl 13 on element 11, Geneva wheel 9 and chain 7. The intermittent movement of pawl 13 is derived from the continuously rotating shaft 15 via gears 22 and 21, cam 23 and follower 24 which operates periodically to move element 11 lengthwise along shaft 15 to engage the Geneva wheel 9. Operation of pusher head 3c, Fig. 2 (not shown).-Two pusher heads 3c are carried by the common rod 3b. A pusher head is engaged by a pusher 28a carried by lever 28 connected to pivot 31 by lever 29 and operated through rod 32 by cam 33 driven synchronously with cam 23. In this way the pusher head opposite to the supplier 1 is moved backwards to permit the magazine 3 to be filled with caramels whilst at the same time the opposed head 3c is moved forward to discharge its magazine.
