Abstract

1277382 Turning cigarettes end for end A SCHMERMUND 13 Jan 1971 [31 Jan 1970] 1608/71 Heading A2C [Also in Division B8] Cigarettes fed in two side-by-side rows on a drum 1, with their filter ends adjacent, arrive on a conveyor belt 21 in a single row with the filter ends all uniformly aligned. The cigarettes of one of the rows are fed to holders 4 of a drum 3. The holders are tilted by the action of a cam rail 13 so that the cigarettes are turned through 180‹ so as to fall into slots 14 which are in axial alignment with the positions of the corresponding holders 4 before deflection. The cigarettes are retained in the holders 4 and released at the correct instant by controlling suction applied through conduits 15, 16. The cigarettes in the other of the rows of drum 1 are fed via a drum 20 to a drum 19 where they are reunited with the reorientated cigarettes. Means (not shown) moves the re-orientated cigarettes axially so that their ends are in alignment with the ends of the non-reorientated cigarettes.
