Abstract

553,719. Wrapping machines. KEMP, Ltd., G., and FITZ-GERALD, H. J. Feb. 10, 1942, No. 1745. [Class 78 (i)] Biscuits &c. are carried in loose edge-stack formation by an endless belt &c. conveyer moved intermittently to deliver a stack at a time to a vertically reciprocating platform which co-operates with wrapping mechanism. In one form the biscuits 13 are slid over a stationary platform 12 by pushers 22 carried by endless parallel chains 10 moving in unison over end sprocket wheels. The pusher supports 23 are pivoted to links of the chains 10 so as to be forcable backward against the pull of springs 27, thus enabling the pushers to feather down through an end slot when passing round the end of the platform 12, humps being provided on the platform at such end to minimize the chance of the pusher 22 fouling the platform edge. Transversely adjustable guides 31 steer the top sides of the stack of biscuits 13. Fig. 5 shows another form in which the biscuits 13 rest on, and are carried by, a belt 35 moved intermittently in consonance with the vertically reciprocating platform 14. Spring-pressed flaps 36, held by stops from turning further forward than the perpendicular position, press the biscuits along between guides 31 as before, the hinges of the flaps allowing them to pass through the end gap 41.
