Abstract

Alkali metal estrone sulphate salts are prepared by reacting estrone with at least one molar equivalent of sulphamic acid in the presence of pyridine at an elevated temperature, e.g. at a temperature between 70 DEG and 105 DEG C., separating and neutralizing the estrone3-sulphuric acid salt obtained with an alkali metal hydroxide, e.g. sodium or potassium hydroxide. The neutralization step may be carried out at room temperature in the presence of pyridine. A number of detailed examples are given.
