Abstract
829,147. Thermionic cathode constructions. MULLARD Ltd. May 9, 1958 [June 20, 1957], No. 19447 /57. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XXII] A cathode is manufactured by introducing one or more metallic elements carrying emissive material into a metallic tube which is then reduced in cross-section by mechanical treatment such as drawing or swaging, the resulting structure being sliced across transversely to provide a disc which forms the cathode face. The emissive material may be coated on to wires or foil, which is introduced into an outer nickel, cobalt, or platinum tube before drawing down. Such drawn-down tubes may be placed in an outer tube, and further drawn down. Further outer tubes may be drawn over the original outer tube. The discs are sliced off to a thickness of 50-300 microns, or thicker discs may be filed or turned down. Two specific examples are given.
