Abstract
918,089. Thermionic cathodes. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. April 6, 1961 [April 29, 1960], No. 12414/61. Class 39 (1). An electron tube cathode has a wrap-around coating 25 of such a shape that the seam 31 formed by opposite edges follows a spiral of no more than one turn around the cathode sleeve 11. The coating 25 may comprise a cast film of calcium, barium and strontium carbonates in a cellulose binder, and may be applied to sleeve 11 by use of an adhesive, or by wetting the sleeve or coating with a solvent and using a puff of air to attach it to the sleeve or by the methods described in Specification 787,926. The use of a rhomboidal shaped wrap to obtain a spiral seam ensures that only a small portion of the seam is closely adjacent the grid wires 35.
