Abstract

827,062. Heat exchangers. ROLLSROYCE Ltd. April 9, 1956 [April 19, 1955], No. 11332/55. Class 64(3) In a heat exchanger, secondary surface disposed between the walls of a fluid passage consists of at least two matrices each comprising a series of strip-like elements of zig-zag form, the elements of each matrix being spaced apart and intercalated with the elements of another such matrix, each matrix being bonded at the location of the bends presented by the zig-zag formation of the elements thereof, to at least one of the walls defining the fluid passage. A matrix may comprise wires 10, preferably of flattened cross-section, interconnected by cross-wires 11 (Figs. 1 and 2) and Fig. 3 shows two such matrices arranged in a fluid passage defined between the walls of neighbouring tubes 12, the matrices being so intercalated that the wires 10 of one matrix alternate with and are staggered with respect to the wires 10 of the other matrix. The matrix may be formed from a metal sheet perforated and then bent to provide the interconnected strip-like elements of zig-zag form (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown). Specification 827,060 is referred to.
