Abstract
1450460 Plate heat exchangers KLOCKNER - HUMBOLDT - DEUTZ AG 2 July 1974 [3 July 1973] 29372/74 Heading F4S In a heat exchanger comprising a stack of parallel plates 2, 3 and spacer bars 4, 5 arranged to define a plurality of flow ducts for the heat exchanging fluids, each flow duct contains a plurality of individual parallel wire network layers 6 each lying in a plane transverse to the general direction 10 of fluid flow. Each wire network layer 6 comprises wires 7 which extend from plate to plate and wires 8 which cross the wires 7 at right angles to form a generally square lattice pattern. The wires 7 and 8 are interwoven and are secured together at their crossing points 9 by soldering or welding; the wires 7 are secured at their ends to the plates 2, 3. Adjacent networks in a flow duct may be aligned with one another, Fig. 2, or can be offset from one another to produce a torturous flow path. Preferably a number of network layers are formed into a single unit and the unit welded between the plates. Flow in adjacent ducts may be counter-current (Fig. 5) or cross-current (Fig. 6).
