Abstract

1328941 Plate heat exchangers RITTERSHAUS & BLECHER GmbH 14 Jan 1972 [23 Jan 1971] 1905/72 Heading F4S In a plate heat exchanger particularly suitable for heating slurry-like fluids and comprising a plurality of separable grooved plates 5 movably suspended on rollers 4 from a horizontal beam 4 supported by two columns 1 and 2, the plates are clamped together by means of an hydraulic actuator 6 which acts on a crosshead 7 movably suspended from the beam 3. The crosshead 7 is connected by tie rods 8, 9 to a platen 10 also movably mounted on the beam 3. The grooves 19, 19<SP>1</SP> in opposite faces of each plate 11 co-operate with the grooves in adjacent plates to define two alternate series of serpentine configured ducts 20 for the passage of the two heat exchange media. Suitably gasketed ports or holes 22 to 33 are provided to lead the media through the stack. The plates are sealed around their periphery by means of 0-ring seals 34. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown), the plates are formed with spiral grooves of semicircular cross-section, the resulting spiral ducts for the heat exchange media thus having a circular cross-section (see Fig. 7).
