825,594. Combustion apparatus. BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V., DE. Feb. 26, 1958 [Feb. 28, 1957], No. 6225/58. Class 51 (1). The combustion chamber 1 of a vertically mounted apparatus for burning liquid and/or gaseous fuel as described in Specification 703,721 has secondary air introduced through an annular slot 3 around the periphery of its lower end wall 13 to prevent deposits forming on the walls of the chamber. Vanes 8 within the slot provide a rotary motion to the secondary air about the longitudinal axis of the apparatus in the same rotational sense as the primary air flowing through a whirl chamber 5 is given by tangential inlets formed by swirl blades 6. A cover 11 secured by a flange 12 to the main structure closes an air supply chamber 7 surrounding the blades 6 and also supports the burner 4, blades 6 and the end wall 13, the latter by means of supports 14 and a plate 15. Cylindrical partitions 16, 17 within the air supply conduit provide a uniform air flow through the chamber 7 from which the ratio of primary and secondary air supplied to the whirl chamber and slot respectively is between 2 : 1 and 1 : 2.
