Abstract
868,192. Supplying air to burners. THERMAL RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CORPORATION. Jan. 28, 1960 [Jan. 29, 1959], No. 3057/60. Class 75(1). A combustion apparatus comprises a cylindrical combustion chamber 10, an air chamber 13 mounted on the rear wall of the combustion chamber and a series of air swirl vanes 16 disposed concentrically about the axis of the air chamber and diverging from each other in a direction towards an inlet aperture 12 in the rear wall of the combustion chamber. The air passes through diverging openings 16a between the vanes 16. The air is supplied to the air chamber 13 by a pipe 15 and is distributed equally to the vanes 16 by a shroud 17 having openings 18 near the rear wall of the air chamber, the openings 18 adjacent the air pipe 15 being smaller than the remainder. Liquid fuel is injected into the combustion chamber by an atomizer 20 and gaseous fuel is injected into the combustion chamber by a nozzle 22 surrounding the atomizer 20.
