Abstract

944,585. Liquid fuel furnaces. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G. March 29, 1960 [April 4, 1959], No. 11060/60. Heading F4B. [Also in Division F1] An axially symmetrical combustion chamber 1 has a restricted inlet 10 and a restricted outlet 15, the diameter of the outlet being between 1.5 and 2.5 that of the inlet, and the largest diameter of the combustion chamber being between 3 and 5 times that of the inlet. An axially-directed oil inlet nozzle 3 is surrounded by a frusto-conical displacement member 2. Combustion air is delivered through casings 7, 5 over vanes 12 to enter inlet 10 with a tangential velocity less than its axial velocity. The combustion chamber 1 is adjustably mounted within the casing 5 and the displacement member 2 is axially adjustable so that the velocity of the air supplied, and hence the velocity of the return flow towards the fuel nozzle can be adjusted so that complete combustion is obtained.
