Abstract

1511849 Gas turbine &c. combustion chambers DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 24 Nov 1975 [28 Nov 1974] 51690/74 Heading F1L A combustion chamber, e.g. for a gas turbine, includes an annular diffuser duct 5 directing combustion air from inlet 6 to an outlet 14 facing upstream towards concave end-wall 1b so as to set up a vortex flow adjacent thereto. Fuel is supplied to the vortex flow by nozzle 2 together with additional combustion air from passage 9. Swirl vanes 7, 14 may be provided at the duct outlet 14 and upstream of the reverse bend. Dilution air added through holes 12 may have a swirl component opposite to that imparted by vanes 7. The combustion chamber shown is cylindrical but in a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown) is annular.
