Abstract
821,453. Yarns; woven fabrics. MILLER, G. D. Aug. 16, 1956 [Sept. 8, 1955], No. 25066/56. Drawings to Specification. Classes 120(3) and 142(4) [Also in Group VIII] A plied yarn, having a high capillary lift effect for wicking liquid lubricant, comprises a plurality of single yarns, each having a twist per inch of 2.25#N, twisted together with a reverse twist per inch of 1.80 #/P; where N and P are yarn numbers of the singles and plied yarns respectively in the woollen American cut system. In an example, a single yarn of 17 count (American cut woollen system), and a twist of 91/3 turns per inch is spun preferably on the woollen system from a mixture of 85% 3-denier Vicare (man-made protein) fibre and 15% 64's quality wool fibre. Two such single yarns are plied together with a twist in the opposite direction of 5β turns per inch. The plied yarns are woven into a fabric with not more than 11 warps and 9 wefts per inch. An antistatic agent is applied to the Vicara fibres before spinning and removed after weaving. The fabric is pre-shrunk and incorporated in a laminate consisting of alternate layers of fabric and carded wool or felt united or by felting. Cotton or rayon fibres may be used instead of Vicara. Specifications 715,026 and 746,103 [both in Group XXXIV], are referred to.
