Abstract
820,915. Cathode materials and processing. MULLARD Ltd. May 5, 1958 [Sept. 20, 1957], No. 29650/57. Class 39(1). A cathode is provided with an alkaline earth metal carbonate coating by making a suspension of the carbonate in a binder solution, forming the suspension into a layer, drying said layer to produce a sheet or strip, compressing, and then adhering the sheet to the cathode body. A suitable resin may be used as the adherent, or alternatively the cathode may be wetted with a binder for the solvent, and then brought into contact with the sheet so that the latter wraps itself around the cathode. Suitable organic materials for constituting the binder, and the wetting solvent, are given. The layer of suspension may be formed by spreading over a glass plate, or a spinning disc, or alternatively by extrusion. The layer may be compressed between flat surfaces or between rollers, to a final thickness of about 50 microns. The carbonates may have a loading of powdered nickel, or other specified metals.
