Abstract
Zinc monoxy chromate suitable for use as a pigment is prepared by adding to a boiling aqueous solution of one mole. of chromic acid, a boiling slurry of two moles. of zinc oxide, or solid zinc oxide. The concentrations preferably range from 0.125 to 0.715 gm./ml. for the ZnO and 0.079 to 0.445 gm./ml. for the CrO3 calculated on the total water content of the mixture. To prevent grit-formation a small amount of sodium citrate may be added to the mixture, preferably 0.1% by weight of the zinc oxide.
