819,533. Electric tests. URMENYI, L. Aug. 7, 1957 [Aug. 8, 1956], No. 24335/56. Class 37. The thickness of an insulating coating on a conductng base is measured by a capacitance method, the probe comprising a sheet of flexible metal fixed to a block of soft elastic material, so that it may follow a curved surface closely; as shown, the flexible metal probe 25 is backed by a piece of rubber 24 and a hollowed-out insulator 23. The metal sheet 25 may be protected by a thin pliable sheet of insulating material. It is shown as applied to a curved metal workpiece 27 having an insulating coating 28. Fig. 1 (not shown) is a suitable capacitance bridge circuit, in which the required thickness is read as a galvanometer deflection, the galvanometer being calibrated by two test pieces whose thickness differs by a known amount (e.g. 1/500 in.).
