858,283. Measuring dimensions. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO. Ltd. June 18, 1957 [July 20, 1956], No. 22549/56. Class 37 Apparatus for measuring the change in crosssection of, for example, a steel wire acted on by a shaving tool C, comprises an A.C. bridge circuit with two arms L1, L2 having a fixed ratio of impedance, e.g. unity and arms L3, L4 consisting of coils through which the wire passes before and after being shaved. The bridge voltage is stabilized by a borretter B and is preferably such as to saturate the wire and the indicating device is a rectifier type milliammeter M with an adjustable resistor R in series. The meter may be scaled to show the reduced cross-section as a percentage of the original.
