850,937. Calibrating linear-dimension gauges. SANDVIKERS JERNWERKS A.B. July 17, 1957 [July 18, 1956], No. 22707/57. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A device for the continuous measurement of strip thickness comprises parts 16, 17 carrying measuring means 22, 23, the parts 16, 17 being movable angularly in relation to the longitudinal direction of the strip 29 passing the device, the parts 16, 17 also being movable between two positions, in one of which they are placed for measurement, and being placed for calibration by a slip gauge 28 in the other. The feelers 22, 23 are mounted on arms 16, 17 hinged at 18 and connected by spring strips 11 to a movable platform 12. The device is shown in an intermediate position, in which the arms 16, 17 are held apart by a spacing device 26. If the carriage is moved to the right, the arms being urged together by a spring 19, when rollers 27 move off the right hand end of the spacer 27, the device then being used for measurement. If the carriage is moved to the left, the feelers are brought into contact with a slip gauge 28 and the indicator 24 can then be adjusted to give the required reading. The measuring apparatus may be of any well-lmown type, and the device may be used for controlling the thickness of strip produced by a rolling mill. Specifications 367,700, 596,641 and U.S.A.
