Abstract
629,277. Extensometers. UNITED STATES STEEL CORPORATION OF DELAWARE. Oct. 4, 1946, No. 29685. Convention date, June 28, 1946. [Class 40 (i)] An extensometer for a strip rolling mill comprises linear-voltage-speed generators 14, 16 coupled to idler-rolls 4, 10 driven by the strip " S " before and after passing through the work-rolls 6. A fixed resistance R1 and a potentiometer R2 connected across the output of the generator 16 enables its voltage to be balanced against that of the generator 14. A self-balancing device actuates the potentiometer slider 20 which is calibrated to read percentage extension of the strip S. The selfbalancing device may comprise a vibrating contact to produce an intermittent voltage from the slider 20 which after amplification feeds one field of a two-phase motor driving the sliding contact.
