599,415. Cathode-ray oscillographs; detecting, indicating and locating faults. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BAKER. W. F. Oct. 29, 1945, No. 28590. [Class 37] In an arrangement for testing the individual cell E.M.F's. of an H.T. battery 2, a rotating switching device 1 operates to impress the voltage of each cell in turn, or a derivative of this voltage through an amplifier 17, upon the Y-plates 3 of a cathode-ray tube 4, the X-plates 18 of which are coupled to a linear time base 19 having a controlling device 12 which rotates in synchronism with the device 1 such that the time of sweep corresponds to the time taken by the device 1 in successively connecting each cell voltage to the Y-plates. The screen of the cathode-ray tube will show a series of lines, each of which is proportional in length to a corresponding cell E.M.F. ; a numbered scale may be provided to facilitate the location of a faulty cell.
