Abstract
858,193. Counting-apparatus. BUTTERWORTH, E., BUTTERWORTH, I. E., and ARCHER, J. R. Aug. 11, 1958 [Aug. 12, 1957; Nov. 11, 1957], Nos. 25348/57 and 35034/57. Class 106 (1). In a device for reading a counter at a remote point each numeral drum of the counter, Fig. 5, which as shown forms part of a gas meter, drives a slider over a wire-wound potentiometer 36, and the connections from the potentiometers are taken to a remote socket to which a meterreader can plug a reading unit comprising an ammeter 19, Fig. 3, a rotary switch 18, and a potentiometer 14 to adjust the potential received from a battery 10, whereby the meterreader can ascertain the setting of the counter by measuring the current that passes through each potentiometer 36 in turn. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown) the potentiometers 36, are replaced by rotary switches having their contacts joined by standard resistances.
