Abstract

[Also in Division G4] In a double triode valve voltmeter (as shown) a high resistance voltmeter 34 with condenser 35 in parallel is connected between the two cathodes of a double triode valve 27 to which power is supplied from a transformer 28 by way of a smoothing circuit 30 and balancing resistance 32. The potential to be measured is connected across terminals 21. To calibrate the meter, movable contacts 24 are connected to contacts 26 and variable resistance 32 adjusted until the reading on the meter 34 is zero. The contacts 24 are then connected to the position 23 (200V supply) and the resistance 36 adjusted to give maximum reading on the scale (the voltmeter is for reading up to 200 volts D.C.).
