Abstract

818,872. Range-finder sights. BEACONING OPTICAL & PRECISION MATERIALS CO. Ltd. Sept. 6, 1955 [Sept. 30, 1954], No, 25508/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 97(1) [Also in Group XXI] A range-finder sight in which the parallel angle is determined by bringing into proper relationship the two images of a target formed each by one of two beams of light from the target and entering each one of a pair of spaced windows and the tangent elevation angle of the barrel of a firing weapon to which the rangefinder sight is clamped is automatically obtained by bringing the said two images into proper relationship, is rendered suitable to cater for variations in the ballistic curve of the weapon by the addition of an adjustable optical deviator placed in part of one of said two light beams and means to adjust the deviator so as to deflect the light beam in the plane of the instrument base and thereby deliberately change the parallax angle so that a new sighting of the instrument is needed to bring the two images into proper relationship. The deviator may be in form of a rotatable wedge or a pair of contra-rotatable wedges and its drive may be graduated in terms of the factor which causes the ballistic curve to change. The rangefinder sight may be of any one of the types described in Specifications 738,504 and 772,658 and in Canadian Specification 549,249.
